Schenectady County will accept household hazardous waste at two different locations beginning on May 18. Accepted items include leftover household chemicals, paints and paint materials, lawn and garden chemicals, automobile fluids (except anti-freeze and motor oil), and a variety of other materials.
The program will be offered Fridays and Saturdays from May through November. Locations accepting drop offs include the Schenectady County Yard Waste Composting Facility and Resident Recycling Center at 24 Hetcheltown Rd. or the Schenectady County Public Works Facility at 100 Kellar Ave., Rotterdam.
The 2018 drop off schedule is as follows:
* Fri., May 18 Compost Facility
* Fri., June 08 Compost Facility
* Sat., July 07 Kellar Avenue
* Sat., August 04 Compost Facility
* Fri., September 07 Compost Facility
* Fri., October 05 Compost Facility
* Sat., November 10 Kellar Avenue
No waste from commercial, industrial, institutional, or nn-profits will be accepted.
In 2017, Schenectady County Residents recycled more than 7,000 gallons of hazardous liquids and 60,000 pounds of hazardous materials through the program.
