Residents say goodbye to the only town grocery store

Local

This month the Big Y Super Market in Adams announced it’s closing and laying off nearly 90 employees.

In a press release the company stated, “The store is incompatible with their current business model, and they can no longer operate the store effectively.”

Once the location closes residents will have to travel to stores like Walmart in North Adams or the other Big Y location.

Officials with the Adams Council on Aging believe that distance will create a problem for seniors and other residents who do not have transportation.
