A Rensselaerville man has been arrested after police say he strangled a 12-year-old girl and sexually assaulted her while she was unconscious.

The Albany County Sheriff’s Office says that on at least one occasion in 2014 43-year-old Justin Parker of Rensselaerville strangled a 12-year-old girl until she was unconscious and then sexually abused her while she was still unconscious. Officials say Parker knew the victim.

The Sheriff’s Office says it was alerted to the situation by North Carolina Child Protective Services in November 2017. Representatives from CPS told the Sheriff’s office a 12-year-old girl had been sexually abused over the course of several years at a home in the Town of Westerlo.

Parker has been charged with one count of first-degree sexual assault and one count of second-degree strangulation. He was arraigned in the Town of Westerlo Justice Court and remanded to the Albany County jail on $50,000 bail.
