The Rensselaer County Minority Legislature submitted a new law that may affect pawn shops.

The law will contain a mandatory holding period of 10 days. This means if someone sells an item to a second-hand dealer, the dealer must not sell the item for at least 10 days.

Studies show areas that have pawn shops are more at risk for crimes like robberies, burglaries, and larcenies.

The law would help law enforcement retrieve stolen goods that were pawned for cash.
