N.Y. (NEWS10) - Spring turkey season is in the near future, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is making sure that first-time hunters are prepared.
The DEC reminding you that all first-time hunters must complete a mandatory hunter education course before you can buy a hunting license. All classes are free and there is homework that must be completed beforehand.
According to the DEC's website, the spring youth turkey hunt is taking place April 20th and 21st this year. The regular spring turkey season starts on May first and goes through May 31st.
Classes are being offered throughout the state during March and April.
