Preparing for potential major winter storm

Firefighters are urging the public to make preperations for a potential major winter storm this weekend.

They say the rule of thumb is to prepare for the possibility of losing power for up to 36 hours by stocking up on food, batteries, and firewood.

If you find yourself stoking your fireplace for the first time this season, though, a chimney sweep says start the fire gradually to prevent a flume crack and a chimney fire.

If you have time, he says to get your chimney inspected and cleaned before the snow arrives.
