Police: Man assaulted young child outside of school

WASHINGTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) - New York State Police arrested a man they say assaulted a child under the age of 7 outside of a school on Monday.

Police say Michael Thorpe, 37, of Washington, was charged with second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

School officials contacted police regarding the child's injuries.

Thorpe was arraigned and remanded to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.

He is due back in court later this month.
