Colonie police had to shut down Central Avenue from Reeber to Waterman in both directions after a multi-vehicle crash happened around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Police said it started with a routine traffic stop after a driver failed to stop at a stop sign.
Officers pulled that driver over and the driver told them they didn’t have a license and sped off.
Witnesses said that the vehicle headed westbound with no headlights on, driving on the wrong side of the road, before it crashed.
“It collided with a couple of other motor vehicles,” said Colonie Police Sergeant John O’Donnell, “Two male occupants got out and fled the scene.”
Police are still looking to identify one of the suspects, who they do not believe to be a threat to the community.
The fire department had to cut off the roof of one of the vehicles to get people out. Those individuals were taken to Albany Medical Hospital with serious injuries, but police said they do not believe they are life threatening.
