Recently at The Gateway Diner on Central Avenue in Albany a man was caught on camera stealing money meant for the hungry.
Niko Verrigni is a manager at the diner and says they’ve partnered with The Food Pantries for the Capital District for nearly a decade.
“It’s really surprising that somebody would take from someone. Especially those who are in need,” said Verrigni.
The Food Pantries for the Capital District is a coalition pantries in the area. Executive director Natasha Pernicka says the money in the cannister could have provided nearly 300-pounds worth of food.
“This money is so important to The Food Pantries for the Capital District. It helps us support those 65 food pantries that work in our coalition,” said Pernicka.
Albany police say they are investigating this incident.
