Police: Habitual church burglar arrested again

Local

Colonie Police arrested a local man who they say burglarized a local church and stole more than $1,000.

Surveillance video from the incident at the Victory Church on Van Buren Avenue played a big part in the arrest. In the video, you can see the suspect, identified as 74-year-old Robert Hoag, walking out of an office inside the church. He closes the door and walks away and can be seen checking his coat pockets, making sure the money he alledly stole is secure.

Police it was pretty easy for the Hoag to gain access.

The burglary happened at around 10 a.m. on Sunday. Shortly after, officers were able to arrest Hoag.

He is charged with third-degree burglary and fourth-degree grand larceny.

When officers checked Hoag’s criminal records, they saw he had a pretty lengthy criminal history, including four stints in New York State Prisons.

Officers also say Hoag was arrested in 2017 and 2018 for church burglaries in Albany.

Hoag was arraigned and remanded to Albany County Correctional Facility.
