It’s an incident that caught one family by surprise after finding that their personal items were being stolen from right under their noses.

Katherine Disorda, 20, was charged with grand larceny, after being accused of stealing jewelry from an elderly couple who police say she was the caregiver to at the time.

“Police investigators in Brunswick were contacted by the victim’s daughter who was concerned that their home health aid Disorda may have been taking money property from her parent’s home,” Trooper Kerra Burns, the PIO at Troop G, said. “The victims’ daughter got a tip on Facebook that the home aid may have been taking money from another family.”

In an email sent to NEWS10 ABC, a daughter of the victims says Disorda had been working for them for at least two years and also stole money during that time.

On Facebook, the daughter voiced her thoughts on the relationship her parents had with the suspect stating, “My parents really liked her too, its unfortunate what she did to them.”

“State Police investigators then went to a kiosk located in Crossgates Mall where you an exchange cash for gold. They were able to obtain the records where the victims were able to identify several pieces of their property,” Burns said.

In addition to being charged in the state of New York, she was also charged in Vermont, following a search warrant in her home, where police found a ring and two watches.

“We do have cases like this come up, we suggest that people check in with their loved ones. If the home-aide is home it is not a bad idea to stop by and see what’s going on,”

Disorda is expected to appear in court at a later date.
