Pinball and Arcade Show held at Saratoga YMCA

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) - Arcade fans are gathering at a local YMCA this weekend for some fun and a good cause.

Sounds of nostalgia filled the air at the Saratoga Regional YMCA on Friday as hundreds pulled levers and pushed buttons on 40 different pinball machines and arcade games.

It’s an activity Frank Rothdeutsch, of Dutchess County, fell in love with after high school.

“There was a local arcade, and I started playing, and I said, ‘Wow, this is cool because there’s lights, there’s mechanical stuff, there’s electrical stuff,’” he said. “I said I’ve got to get me one of these one of these days.”

He did. Now, 30 years later, he has dozens of machines at this home.

“You have people that are into classic cars, older cars, so I’m into older pinball machines,” he said.

Whenever there’s a pinball show, he can’t resist going – even if it means driving to Saratoga Springs – because at the event, he doesn’t just get the chance to add to his collection but he also gets to play a variety of games.

That’s what drew Jennifer Eads, of Saratoga Springs.

“Some of the machines are so different, and they do a lot,” she said. “Some of them are faster and slower than others and just the art on them is great.”

She’s missed the old fashioned games as has Kevin Rush, of Ballston Spa.

“It’s just a fun game of skill and dumb luck,” he said.

He enjoyed teaching his daughter about it while also giving back to the YMCA where he’s been a member for four years.

“All the programs here are really good,” he said. “We can drop her off for a program and feel real safe.”

All $10 admission fees go toward the non-profit, which is a fitness center and funds camps for those in need.

“We basically don’t turn away anyone here at the Y, so all this charity, contributions goes to paying for anyone who can’t afford to come here,” organizer Adam Deutschmann said.

Shining light on a community organization while lighting up the scoreboards.

“I don’t really want to stop playing them, so I just want to keep going around and around,” Eads said.

You can still enjoy the fun and games from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday.

The Saratoga Regional YMCA is located at 290 West Ave.
