70-year-old pedestrian hit, killed near gas station in Scotia

SCOTIA, N.Y. (NEWS10) - A female pedestrian was hit by a car and killed on Mohawk Avenue in Scotia Wednesday evening.

Police said the crash took place around 6:40 p.m. in front of the Xtra Mart gas station near Collins Street. It is believed 70-year-old Kathleen Allen was crossing Mohawk Avenue when she was hit by a jeep.

Police said she was wearing dark clothing while crossing a part of the road that did not have a crosswalk.

Allen was treated at the scene by Scotia Fire Department paramedics and taken to Ellis Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car is cooperating fully. No tickets have been issued and speed is not believed to be a factor.
