New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Attorney General Barbara Underwood announced the state filed a lawsuit against the federal government over the new tax law.
The lawsuit argues that the new State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction cap was enacted to target New York and other similarly situated states. The lawsuit also alleges that it interferes with states’ rights to make their own financial decisions and will disproportionately harm taxpayers in these states.
The governor’s office says the federal tax law will cost New Yorkers $14.3 billion in 2018 alone.
Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey also joined the lawsuit.
