On County Road 358, several signs against a proposed gun range for the neighboring New York State Park Police facility line the street.
Neighbors surrounding the gun range came armed to Wednesday’s open house with questions. Last year, a lawsuit closed down the firing range. But prospects of it returning have neighbors on edge.
Captain Walter Schedel says having the firing range is necessary for their recruits. The captain says not having a shooting range at the facility has cost them $52,000 for the four weeks the recruits are away.
Following an environmental impact statement and the additional questions and concerns from the public that were gathered, there will be a public meeting scheduled for the fall.
