SCOTIA, N.Y. (NEWS10)- - February is National Cholangiocarcinoma Month, an effort to bring awareness to a rare form of cancer of the bile ducts.
23 year-old, Michaela Heintz, was diagnosed last April, after her doctor found a mass on her liver. She has since made it her mission to educate others about the disease.
"Early stage symptoms are going to be abdominal pain, vomiting, and weight loss," explained Heintz.
Late stage symptoms include jaundice, which is the yellowing of the skin. Heintz said it is best to be your own advocate and to let your doctor know if you are not feeling right.
