MMA generates millions in tax revenue since coming to NY

Local

Mixed martial arts has generated nearly $97 million in New York State over the past two years since the statewide ban was lifted in 2016, according to Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara.

As a result, $7.5 million in taxes has been paid to the state in taxes.

Rivers Casino in Schenectady has sold out five MMA events attracting thousands of fans.

He says many are coming from out of town and spending money at local restaurants and hotels as well as benefiting the local economy.

Santabarbara says the addition of sports betting to the state and Rivers Casino will only increase numbers and support more investment into the communities.
