Massachusetts bill to require tipped workers be paid minimum wage

Local

Massachusetts State Representative Tricia Farley- Bouvier of Pittsfield is one of two Democrats calling for the state’s sub minimum wage of $4.35 for tipped workers to be eliminated.

The bill would raise the minimum wage incrementally over several years to $13.95 cents and in 2028 would require all workers be paid the state’s full minimum wage.

Restaurant owners say the proposed increase could lead to higher prices and force many restaurants to close.
