Man facing charges in death of Canajoharie man

A man is facing charges in the death of a man in Canajoharie.

Police say an altercation took place between Stanley Hall and Joseph Herting at a multi-unit home on Walnut Street on New Year’s Eve.

First responding officers on scene began administering first aid to Herting prior to the arrival of firefighters and EMS personnel. He later died from his injuries sustained in the altercation.

Several items of evidence were recovered at the scene. Police have also located and secured video surveillance of the incident.

Hall was charged with second-degree assault.

He’s being held at Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $30,000 bail or $60,000 bond.

Police say after the conclusion of a forensic autopsy at Albany Medical Center, it was determined that Herting sustained critical injuries consistent with the altercation. 

The investigation is being treated as a homicide investigation and is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Canajoharie Police at (518)-673-3331.
