A man is facing hate crime charges after Bethlehem Police say he threatened members of a local church.

Shawn Grady, 37, is accused of threatening to harm multiple members of a congregation and made numerous comments against individuals of a specific sexual orientation over the phone in October 2018. He was located and arrested on Friday in Glenmont by members of the Bethlehem Police Department.

Grady was charged with felony counts of making a terroristic threat, second-degree aggravated harassment as a hate crime.

Police say Grady was charged with a hate crime based on the state’s hate crime statutes, for enhanced penalties for those who commit crimes directed at individuals based on a variety of factors including sexual orientation.

Grady was arraigned and remanded to the Albany County Jail without bail.
