Clifton Park residents say their mail is being delivered late at night and some days, they are not getting their mail at all.
“Our mail delivery is starting at 9 or 10 o’clock at night, ” explained a Clifton Park resident named Patty.
She said her elderly neighbors are having to check their mail multiple times a day, and are struggling to get to their mailboxes in the dark.
“In the past 12 days, we have gone 6 days without mail delivery. That’s including medications being mailed to seniors in the neighborhood.”
Brenda DiCocco said she too is having the same problem.
“I did try to get through to the post office,” explained DiCocco. “Many people here did the same thing too and we never got a call back.”
News 10 reached out to Maureen Marion, a spokesperson for the United States Post Office.
“We do apologize for any interruption of service that our customers in Clifton Park have experienced,” said Marion.
Marion stated that compared to last year, the United States Postal Service has seen a 15% increase in packages being sent. It has made it hard to keep up with deliveries, especially in Clifton Park.
“However in Clifton Park, that has been amplified by some opportunities we have had for hiring in the location and we continue to pursue those opportunities for hiring,” said Marion.
Marion added that the post office does not hire holiday workers because it takes awhile for employees to undergo background checks.
“We have some people now again who are training to come out and serve,” stated Marion, “We are flexing some of our resources in the immediate area to bring in additional help to support Clifton Park.”
