Madison VanDenburg is now one of six contestants on American Idol. Her fellow Shaker High School students held a watch party at the Colonie Elks Club in Latham.

The high schoolers watched in anticipation as Madison VanDenburg walked onto American Idol stage to sing “The Show Must Go On” by Queen.

Sophomore Michaela Ridley organized the American Idol watch party.

“I think her performance was outstanding, really cool,” said Ridley. ” I just saw Bohemian Rhapsody which represents Queen, and I think she really did them well. I think it was really well done, and she had really good stage presence, and her hair was really cool!”

VanDenBurg wore nails in her hair for a Queen-inspired look.

American Idol host, Ryan Secreast gave a shout-out to the students at the watch party.

“I’ve grown up seeing him,” said Ridley. “I actually didn’t expect him to give us a shout-out at all, so it was really cool!

VanDenburg sang not one, but two songs Sunday night. Her second performance was a duet of the song “A Million Dreams” from the movie The Greatest Showman. She sang with fellow American idol contestant, Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon.

VanDenburg’s friends and fellow students are so proud of all she has accomplished.

“I’ve never met her, but seeing her and following her social media, she seems like a great role model to a lot of people,” said Sarah Hamilton, a sophomore at Shaker High School.

The students are planning on holding another watch party next week.
