Locals prepare for high winds

STILLWATER, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Overnight heavy winds and rain hit the Capital Region with nearly 5,000 homes impacted by the storm.

“What concerned us is that we saw a lot of tree damage, especially north of Saratoga, up in the Warren County area,” said Patrick Stella with National Grid.

Dale Koehrsen is a resident in Stillwater. His home is located right on the Hudson. Following last night’s storm, his driveway was hit with some pretty bad flooding.

“You get nervous almost every year. A couple years ago we had to use kayaks to get across,” Koehrsen stated.

In the past, Koehrsen’s home was hit with up to 6 feet of flooding in his basement. With high winds expected throughout Monday, he is gearing up for another round.

“There are a lot of warnings, so I’ve been in the basement for a couple days just getting all of the stuff out. Tractors, you know, all your equipment and expensive stuff.”
