Local organization provides warm meals in cold temps

With sub-zero temperatures in Troy and across the Capital Region, sometimes all it takes is a hot meal to warm up.

Unity House is one community organization where you can get a free lunch any Monday through Friday from 11:30 to 1 p.m.

Food security manager Amy Halloran says even though they serve 100 to 150 meals per day, there is an extra need in the colder months.

“It’s really critical for people who are really facing the elements,” said Halloran.

Unity House workers along with youth volunteers from YouthBuild Troy served up meals on Monday to dozens of hungry people.

Unity House does much more than just provide meals to people in the cold weather. To see all the services they have to offer head to the Unity House website.
