Local veteran breaks barriers

Rachel Fredericks joined the Marines at the age of 17.  She was injured during a training accident and was medically discharged.  When she got back to Troy, she had no idea how to go about getting help dealing with the Department of Veterans Affairs, until she came to the Veterans of Lansingburgh.

They told her about the DAV, Disabled American Veterans, and how they could help her navigate the VA systems.  After joining and becoming an active member, Rachel wanted to do more for the organization.  She became an officer of the New York DAV, their first woman and over the last five years has risen up the ranks.
