Kinimo Ngoran, who was detained by ICE in January, will be released and will return home.
A cook at the Capital City Rescue Mission, Ngoran has been in the country since 2011, and was reporting for a mandatory check-in when he was detained.
Since then, his wife Lisa was able to secure a marriage visa.
Albany County Executive Dan McCoy released this statement:
“After six weeks of being away from his family and loved ones, I’m overjoyed to hear he has been released from custody and will be returning home soon. It’s stories like this one and the treatment of immigrants seeking the American Dream that drove me to create the Albany County Office of Immigration Assistance to protect individuals from our broken immigration system.”
