Residents in Saratoga Springs’ Geyser Crest neighborhood are on alert after a bear sighting over the weekend.

The Saratoga Springs Police Department says someone spotted a bear in the neighborhood around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. The bear knocked down a bird feeder in the vicinity of Hathorn and Hutchins Road.

Police say while bear sightings are inevitable, residents can take steps to limit exposure and risk.

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation recommends keeping your grill clean, and storing your garbage cans in a solid structure. You should also avoid leaving your pet food dishes outside, and take in your bird feeders UNTIL NOVEMBER 30.

If you do see bear activity, you should contact your local law enforcement.
