Lawmakers propose state funding for early voting

Local

Lawmakers announced how much money they are purposing to help local governments pay for early voting.

The assembly is calling for $7 million in funding as part of the upcoming state budget while the senate is suggesting $10 million dollars.

Lawmakers voted earlier this year to allow voters to cast a ballot starting 10 days before an election.

County officials then complained they do not have the money to pay for the changes of early voting.

Lawmakers and the governor hope to agree on a budget before April first.
