How to stay cool without air conditioning

If your home doesn’t have air conditioning, there are a number of ways you can still stay cool in the heat.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention compiled this list to help you beat the heat.

Contact Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for help. The organization can help homeowners pay to cool their homes. Contact a representative at LIHEAP.

Contact your local health department or locate an air-conditioned shelter. Find the contact information your county health department in NY.

Spend time at a shopping mall or public library. These locations will have air conditioning that will allow you to get out of the heat, even if it’s only for a few hours.

Take cool showers or baths.

Don’t rely on fans to keep you cool. Electric fans may provide some comfort, but will not protect you from heat-related illnesses. .

Limit the use of your stove and oven. This will help maintain a cooler temperature in your home.
