Happening Monday: East Durham fire victims laid to rest

Local

The five people killed in last week’s devastating house fire in East Durham will be laid to rest Monday following services at the Our Lady of Knock Shrine.

Since the fire, community members have joined together to mourn the five members of the Mammano family killed in the tragic fire.

Five hearses arrived at the Our Lady of Knock Shrine in East Durham Monday morning. Mary and Nick Mammano, along with their three grandchildren Jonathan, Jayden, and Sophia will be laid to rest in a private ceremony later in the day.

The outpouring of support from the community continued Monday, as evidenced by the parking lot outside the funeral filled to overflowing. Some even arrived on school busses, specifically chartered to bring community members to the funeral.

Out of respect, NEWS10 ABC will not be attending the funeral services, but will continue to stay up to date on the proceedings as the day continues.
