The victims of a fatal fire were laid to rest on Monday.
Five members of one family perished in the fire last week, and the community came together one last time in their honor.
Five hearses arrived at Our Lady of Knock Shrine Monday morning – one for each member of the Mammano family. All five died in a fire at their home last week.
The parking lot was filled with loved ones and people from the community who came to remember Nick and Mary Mammano and their grandchildren Jonathen, Jayden and Sophia.
Nick was remembered as selfless and loving and also for his collections of baseball and World War II memorabilia. Mary was a nurse who cared for those around her, including her three grandchildren.
The pair lived in their home in East Durham since the 1980s. Jonathen, Jayden and Sophia lived with their grandparents and their father John. John was the sole survivor of the fire.
Jonathen was outgoing and loved playing on his little league team. Jayden was quiet and loved playing on his tablet. Sophia was a ball of energy.
All five will be missed and were remembered by their friends, family and community as they were laid to rest.
