Full steam ahead locally as USA Gymnastics files Chapter 11

Local

Over 1,000 athletes from around the Northeast are slated to compete at Siena College this weekend.

With USA Gymnastics filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy, in Latham, World Class Gymnastics co-owner Erik Quaal said he believes the bankruptcy is a move to keep the organization afloat for the 2018-2019 competition season.

“I really hope that this bankruptcy allows the new people in place to keep everything going so that we can stay as one organization,” he said.

As uncertainty looms over the future of the national organization, it’s full steam ahead on the local level.

“The elite program is just concerned with sending five kids, total, to these competitions. It’s such a small portion of what gymnastics is in this country,” Quaal said

“Right now it’s about getting the kids excited, routine ready,” said vault coach Craig Bednarczyk.
