Feeding deer can get you a big ticket

Local

Someone has been leaving apples, bread and peanuts for deer in Fairview Park in Schenectady.

The fine for feeding wildlife can be up to $250. City officials want a deer crossing sign put up on Campbell Avenue between Hillhurst Park and Fairview Park.

Schenectady City Councilman Vince Riggi is calling for action after a dead deer ended up in his driveway. In a statement, he said: “This is the first one I know of that’s been hit and killed. This is an ongoing public safety issue. It behooves us to at least warn motorists.”

Another resident has seen as many as 14 in the park, all eating off a concrete slab.  He says they even go into is backyard and eat out of his bird feeder.
