Embattled Troy City Councilman Mark McGrath has resigned on Monday.
Many city leaders called for McGrath to resign after the discovery of a racially charged voicemail containing the n-word that was left three years ago.
He resigned in letter to Council President Carmella Mantello.
Mantello is proposing a bipartisan committee of council members and residents in District 2 to serve on the committee to make recommendations to fill the vacancy.
Troy Mayor Patrick Madden issued the following statement:
“We respect that this was a difficult decision for Mr. McGrath, and wish him the best.”
