Driver in deadly crash sentenced

A man was sentenced in a deadly crash that happened last August.

Christopher Miranda, 18, was sentenced to five to 15 years in prison for his involvement in the crash.

He admitted to driving 104 MPH and intentionally oversteering the wheel in an attempt to drift his car across the road.

Instead, he crashed into a large tree in the front yard of a home on Bluebird Road in Moreau.

His passenger Zachary Brown, 16, was killed and another 14-year-old passenger was seriously injured.

Brown’s father gave a victim impact statement during the sentencing hearing.

“It wasn’t an accident at all. It was a crash that could have been avoided. It was your responsibility to make sure that the people in your car were safe and sound until you decided driving recklessly and speeding was all fun and games. The decision killed my son and your friend, Zachary Brown.”

He says he hopes Miranda will one day speak to high school students about the consequences of reckless and intoxicated driving.
