Fund set up for victims of Niskayuna house fire

NISKAYUNA, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Capital Area established a Fire Victims Fund for the Niskayuna family who lost their dog and home in a fire.

Fire officials said the fire started Thursday afternoon on the first floor of the rear corner of the house on Via Del Mar. The fire was concentrated in the kitchen, and the smoke rose to the attic.

The family dog, Sundance, died in the fire. The homeowners were on vacation at the time.

The house belonged to Tim Doherty, Director of Operations for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Capital Area, his wife, Tori, and their two children.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Capital Area set up a fire victims fund at SEFCU bank in support of the Doherty family. Donations can be made at all SEFCU locations.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.
