SCHROON LAKE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Crews began demolishing the Schroon Lake Community Church Thursday after it was destroyed in a fire over four months ago.
Wednesday night, Pastor Lynnette Cole led a candlelight vigil to help say goodbye to the old building while still looking to what the future will bring.
Church leaders say architects have already started drawing up plans to build a new church on the same site. While most of the church is a total loss crews were able to salvage the steeple and bell, and they hope to incorporate both into the new church.
The president of the community board says he hopes to have the new church completed by December 2020.
