Crews responded to a fire on Georgetta Dix Plaza Wednesday morning.
The fire broke out at around 8 a.m.
Crews are still putting out a fire that broke out. Four adults and five children were inside the home at the time.
A 10-year-old was able to get herself and her cousins out of the home, and this is what she had to say.
“I was crying and I was worried. I didn’t know what to do. I got all the kids out, right I got you outside? I opened the door and said all kids out!! And then I went back upstairs,” Skayler said.
She says she was able to think quickly after learning what to do at school. The fire also spread to two other neighboring homes that are unoccupied.
The fire department did have issues with water pressure of one of the hydrants but was able to get it resolved.
The Red Cross is currently on the scene assisting the family. The Schenectady Fire Department is investigating the cause.
