TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The Troy couple accused of torturing and selling diseased animals pleaded guilty to 17 counts of animal abuse on Thursday.
Michelle and David Hempstead had no comment following their change of plea.
The couple was met with a number of protestors, many who say they adopted or bought sick and injured animals from the couple.
Rebecca Jordan adopted her dog Linnea from the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and court documents show she is one of the nearly 100 pets removed from deplorable conditions inside the couple’s home.
When Jordan adopted the dog, she had multiple multiple tumors and several rotten teeth.
According to court documents, several other dogs also had dental disease, parasitic infections, alopecia, and other issues associated with their skin and hair.
