Common Council to meet to confirm new Albany Police Chief

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) - The Albany Common Council announced it will be holding a special meeting to confirm the appointment of Eric Hawkins as the chief of the Albany Police Department. 

The meeting is scheduled to take place on August 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Hawkins was appointed last month by Mayor Kathy Sheehan.

Hawkins spent 27 years in law enforcement and has served as chief of the Southfield, Michigan Police Department since 2012.

During his time as chief, he reduced crime in the city by 45 percent.
