Colonie passes town budget

COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) - The Town of Colonie passing its budget for 2019 on Thursday evening.

With just a 5.26% ax increase, Supervisor Paula Mahan says the people of Colonie are getting top grade services for a low cost. Her focus is on public safety and infrastructure.

“Their tax dollars are out there working every day," said Mahan. “For the median price house in town monthly it’s going to cost them approximately $2.43.”

But some say the budget doesn't focus enough on open spaces. Susan Weber is with SAVE Colonie and says green space in town is quickly disappearing.

“We’re losing considerable amount of open space every planning board meeting,” said Weber.

Mahan says she and other town leaders are working on creative ways to improve open space.
