Colonie dedicates park to fallen trooper

COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) - Thursday, first responders gathered at Roesselville Park to remember former firefighter and state trooper, Michael Anson.

Anson died in January after developing cancer from helping search and rescue efforts during 9/11.

"We dedicated this park to Trooper Anson because he worked here many years ago," said Paula Mahan, Colonie Town Supervisor. "He put a lot of time and effort into these programs for children in the neighborhood and was very well liked. His family grew up around here, so it is fitting to name this park in his honor."

The park is now being called the NYSP Michael J. Anson Memorial Park.
