Anyone caught using fireworks in the city of Schenectady will now face a hefty fine.
The Schenectady City Council unanimously voted Monday night to impose the $250 fine. Fireworks were already banned in all of Schenectady County.
City and law enforcement officials hope the new fine will further discourage use in residential areas.
“This gives our police department some teeth to actually enforce the laws, and hopefully, bring some peace and quality of life to our neighborhoods.”
