STILLWATER, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A local police department is putting the power back in the hands of domestic violence victims through a program that gives old cell phones a new purpose.
The program began in 2003 with just three cell phones. Since then, the Stillwater Police Department has collected more than 6,000 new and used cell phones.
The phones, with a charger, are programmed to only dial 911.
“A lot of times, the abuser will disable the land line. It empowers them that they have safety at their fingertips.”
If you have a phone to donate, reach out to the Stillwater Police Department.
