The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released updated rankings for hospitals around the country.
The data includes measures of a hospital’s quality of care, which is often updated quarterly.
CMS says the ratings drive systematic improvements in care and safety as hospitals strive to achieve and maintain high ratings.

The agency is looking to change how the ratings are currently conducted by allowing a more direct “like-to-like” comparisons. For example, a smaller hospital being compared to other small hospitals instead of all hospitals.
Hospital Compare has been available for consumers since 2005.
