Body of missing teen recovered in Waterford

WATERFORD, N.Y. (NEWS10) - The body of a teenager with autism missing out of Waterford was recovered on Thursday.

Anthony Blaauboer had been missing since Wednesday afternoon. His body was found around 5:45 p.m. Thursday.

The search for the 14-year-old focused on the water surrounding Peebles Island. Divers recovered his body about 100 ft. downstream from where his clothing was found at Hutchinson Lane in approximately seven feet of water.

Officials are unsure how long he had been in the water. A cause of death won't be determined until an autopsy is performed.

A helicopter, a drone, an airboat, marine patrols with sonar, K9s and people on foot were all enlisted for the search. The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office, several area fire departments, and park police also assisted with the search.

Blaauboer was known to many people in Waterford, including members of law enforcement who were part of the search. Police said roughly 80 volunteers were searching Peebles Island on Thursday.

The investigation is ongoing.
