Colonie Police are advising residents of a National Grid scam.
Dispatchers have reported receiving numerous calls about a scam asking victims to send immediate payment by wire transfer, Green Dot Money-Pak or any other pre-paid method.
If you receive this call or similar call, ask the caller to provide the last five digits of your account number. Police say if the caller has questions about account balance, hang up immediately.
If you have doubts about a National Grid call, you’re advised to hang up and contact National Grid or your police department.
Every National Grid employee carries a photo ID card and any contractor doing work for the company is also issued an ID. If someone requests entry into your home or business and doesn’t display an ID card, don’t let the person in and call the police and National Grid.
