Benefits increase for family of fallen first responders


ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a new law Tuesday that increases the benefits for family members of first responders killed on the job.

The law increases the benefits by three percent for the grieving spouse left behind. the increase also includes children up to age 18 or 23 if they’re a student.

The legislation takes effect immediately.
