Local

Twenty-one airmen with the New York Air National Guard returned home on Friday following another successful “Deep Freeze” operation.

Operation Deep Freeze took place in Antartica. The goal was to use the L-C 130 Aircraft to provide support for the United States research of Antartica.

The aircraft flew thousands of researchers all over the continent. It also carried millions of pounds of cargo around to different research stations.

The 109th wing has been supporting research in Anatartica since 1988.
