1,000 cranes hang at Shaker High to honor beloved student

A local school community is remembering a student who passed away on Monday.

Farhan Afzal was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2010.  As he was recovering, his classmates made 999 paper origami cranes and saved the last one for Farhan to make.

This completed the 1,000 cranes, a Japanese myth that states if you make 1,000 cranes, your wish will come true.

Farhan loved making his origami and would carry paper with him all the time to fold.  He passed on March 4, and students and friends at Shaker High School put up nearly 1,000 cranes in the Shaker High gallery.
